Husqvarna aborde la finale du titre Moto2023 3™ après un bon Grand Prix de Thaïlande pour Veijer

Collin Veijer a piloté sa FR 250 GP jusqu’à la 3e position dans une Buriram chaude et Ayumu Sasaki subit un abandon irréprochable alors que le MotoGP™ met fin à une triple confrontation mouvementée et à la 17e manche sur 20.

Le MotoGP s’est déroulé sur un circuit de championnat du monde pour la troisième semaine consécutive et sous la chaleur intense de la Thaïlande après des épreuves exigeantes en Indonésie et en Australie.L’équipe LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna IntactGP a été heureuse de trouver des conditions plus sèches, plus chaudes et plus ensoleillées pour courir sur le circuit international de Chang à Buriram, à une grande distance à l’est de Bangkok. Le climat thaïlandais n’a cependant pas été sans défis, l’augmentation des températures et de l’humidité signifiant un ensemble de demandes contrastant avec le froid et le vent de Phillip Island le week-end précédent.

Le tracé thaïlandais était plat et rapide avec trois lignes droites de taille décente séparées par une section sinueuse. Les temps au tour étaient incroyablement serrés alors que les équipes travaillaient sur l’affinement de leurs réglages de course pour maîtriser les exigences de freinage et d’accélération, mais aussi suffisamment pour se faufiler dans le tissage des virages 5 à 10 sur la trajectoire de 12 virages. Vendredi, le soleil était étouffant et Vejier a fait sa marque avec le 4e temps le plus rapide et Sasaki était 10e mais à seulement 0,7 de la pole provisoire. Samedi, le ciel contenait plus de nuages, mais la menace d’averses restait pratiquement absente. Quinze coureurs étaient séparés par huit dixièmes de seconde et Sasaki et Veijer étaient dans le coup. Sasaki s’est hissé en première ligne avec la 3e position et Veijer s’est assuré la deuxième grâce à la 5e place. Le groupe s’est élancé pendant 19 tours dimanche matin, mais la course de Sasaki n’a pas duré plus de deux tours. David Muñoz a eu un problème technique lors de la dernière partie du parcours et Sasaki n’a pas pu éviter l’Espagnol. Ayumu a échappé à la blessure et à l’accident, mais a subi son troisième non-score de la saison. Il incombait à Veijer de se battre pour remporter son premier trophée et d’aider à repousser les principaux rivaux de Sasaki au championnat. Le jeune homme a mené à plusieurs reprises dans la lutte serrée, puis a survécu à un énorme « moment » dans le dernier tour pour s’emparer de la 3e place avec seulement trois dixièmes de seconde d’avance ! Il s’agit du premier podium de Veijer en GP lors de sa première campagne en Moto3 et cela donne à l’équipe un total de dix apparitions en 2023. Sasaki est 2e du Championnat du Monde Moto3 avec 17 points le séparant de la 1ère place et avec une marge de 8 sur la 3ème place. La régularité de Veijer lui a permis de se hisser à la 9e place. Le concours par équipes continue d’être présenté par IntactGP ; ils ont un avantage de 16 points tandis que Husqvarna Motorcycles est le 3ème meilleur constructeur. Alors qu’il reste trois Grands Prix à disputer, il reste un maximum de 75 points à gagner. Le MotoGP entre dans un répit bien nécessaire pour les équipes et les pilotes cette semaine, mais le dernier rallye vers la Malaisie, le Qatar et l’Espagne pour terminer 2023 commencera par le déplacement sur le circuit international de Sepang pour la dix-huitième manche du 9 au 12 novembre.

Collin Veijer: “This feels amazing. Better than a Pole Position! At the end my tyre was finished because I tried to lead all the way. I almost highsided at the end but I thought ‘I’m not going to give it away now…’ so I tried my best and I was perfect out of the last corner. This feels great and I’d love to thank my team and all my sponsors, family and friends.” Ayumu Sasaki: “A very disappointing day. We were so unlucky. It was a racing accident. Nothing more we can say. We just need to try to come back in the next race stronger. We have 17 points to catch and we are capable of doing that. We’ll try our best to make it happen.” The IntactGP crew affronted far better racing conditions for Moto2™ compared to the blustery winds, rain and cold air that blighted the shortened outing in Australia. The proximity of the Thai event meant a chance for both Darryn Binder and Lukas Tulovic to forget the adversity of Phillip Island and get their positive momentum back on the boil. Binder, still a rookie to the Moto2 division, fared better in qualification on Saturday but only marginally. The South African was 25th and Tulovic, who is working his way back to full fitness, throttled around Buriram as hard as he could for the 26th best lap-time and the same slot on the grid. Moto2 laid rubber around the Chang International Circuit for 22 laps early Sunday afternoon. Binder had made a bright start and burst into the GP points zone. The South African had a close duel with Bo Bendsneyder and won the dispute for 15th and the last world championship point on the day. Tulovic ranked 23rd after a late fall. Similar heat and unpredictable weather could affect round eighteen and the Malaysian Grand Prix in two weeks’ time. Darryn Binder: “It’s been a difficult weekend. I set out in the race today just to try and gain some information, learn as much as I could and take as many positions as I could! In the beginning I made quite a good start but I reached a point where I could not make much more progress. I did my best and made it to the flag with one point today. Disappointed. It has been a tough one but I did what I could. We’ll try again in Malaysia.” Lukas Tulovic: “It was very annoying that I crashed on the last lap. I wanted to defend this 19th place. Unfortunately, I lost it minimally over the bumps. I wish I could name even one thing that explains why we are struggling so much at the moment. Unfortunately, it is very complex, so I will try to clear my head in the short break before Malaysia. I will prepare well and then we will start with a different strategy in there.”.
